Tubes flies

There are several benefits to using tubes for fly fishing over standard flies which are tied directly to a hook. These are commonly used for weighted Steelhead and Salmon flies.

Tubes give fly fishermen much more flexibility, as they are not tied down to a particular hook, allowing them to choose the make and size to suit their preference and water condition. Imagine being able to change from a single 8 to a treble 10 or between freshwater and saltwater without requiring a separate fly, simply switch the hook! This saves money by being able to reuse the same pattern without buying multiple variations attached to all the desired hooks you could require.

And if a hook does break or wears, you no longer have to throw away the fly. Benefits all round!

We have 4 varieties of tubes, Copper, Aluminium, Plastic and Bottle/Brass. These can be used to help adjust the sink rates of the fly.

Aluminium flies

Aluminium tubes have a mid-range sink rate, faster than Plastic, but slower than Copper and Brass Bottle tubes.

Bottle / Brass flies

Even though Bottle and Brass tubes tend to be the shortest type of tube, they are the heaviest in relation to their size. This allows them to sink with ease in water.

Copper flies

Copper tubes are heavy which helps them sink fast in the water, however to achieve the same sink rate as their Brass/Bottle tubes counterpart they are longer, but do come with the advantage of a slightly cheaper price tag.

Plastic flies

Plastic tubes are the lightest and cheapest type of tube, allowing the fly to sit high up in the water. Because they are plastic, no lining is required to protect the fishing line from damage.
