About the Gary Dog Longtail Salmon Atlantic Fly

The Garry Dog Longtail on a Black Treble hook is a high-impact, long-wing salmon fly designed to fish with maximum movement and a strong, visible silhouette. This longtail version takes the proven Garry Dog style and adds extra length and mobility through the wing, creating a fly that swims and pulses in the current; ideal for provoking reaction takes in classic salmon water.

In this dressing, a dark, ribbed body keeps the profile slim and defined, while the bright yellow underwing and vivid red longtail wing provide standout contrast. Subtle flash fibres running through the wing add a glint in changing light, and the blue hackle at the head gives an extra trigger point right where fish often focus as the fly swings and hangs. Tied on a black treble hook, it offers excellent hooking security and a confident footprint when fishing deeper runs, tail-outs and steady glides.

Fishing Tips:

Where to fish

  • Rivers & Streams
  • Medium to fast-flowing pools and glides
  • Tail-outs where a long wing can fish effectively on the hang
  • Clear to lightly coloured water (and equally useful when there’s a little extra pace/colour)

This salmon atlantic fly is designed to be fished on Rivers & Streams
