About the March Brown Trout Fly

The 'true' March Brown was created for rough and tumble waters.

One of the earliest dressings for the March Brown was by Chetham, calling it the Moorish Brown, this was in 1681 and the basic pattern has remained the same for the last 350 years.

The quarry are still as eager today as in Chethem and Cotton's day.

In the 1496 the 'Treatyse of Fysshynge with an Angle' was printed. The fly patterns recorded for the use in the month of March is so close to todays dressing that it is probaly the original March Brown
