Information about Nymphs flies

Nymphs are aquatic insects that are still in their underwater stage, not having reached their adult, or flying, stage of life yet.

Trout have a diet that consists primarily of sub-surface insects (nymphs).

A key to successful nymphing is being able to know how to get your nymph pattern to the right depth. There for it is important to make accurate casts, so as to allow the nymph to sink to the right depth where you believe the fish may be is!

3D Black Epoxy Buzzer

Availablity:
Immediate Dispatch

Immediate Dispatch

Flybox Code:2516

Hook Sizes: 10, 12, 14

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

The Black 3D fly is refective and easily seen; it has worked wonders on stillwaters, specially when fished very slowly on a floating line and as long a leader as you are comfortable (18ft) Because of its weight the fly cuts rapidly through the surface film and gets to fishing depth quickly. Be aware of takes on the drop. A very slow figure-of-eight retrieve is normally best; occasionally if there is a lot of buzzer activity fairly fast stripping can work well.

Black Adult Buzzer

Flybox Code:2385

Hook Sizes: 14, 12

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

Serious food for trout! A must have pattern for the flybox. Teenage buzzer midges about to emerge rapidly from the water, when they will be leaving their pupal shucks floating on the surface. The emerging insect wriggles out of its skin the hungry trout see a bulky moving mass. When the insect is standing on the water surface near it's old skin waiting for its blood to pump up it's wings and the sun to dry them out the view from under the surface is still of a tangled mess of old skin and legs. You can now see why a fish will take an interesting looking mouthful of unkempt mess of hairy tied to a hook.

Serious food for trout! Teenage buzzer midges about to emerge rapidly from the water, when they will be leaving their pupal shucks floating on the surface. They fly in large swarms, often making a loud buzzing sound even though an individual buzzed is barely audible on its own.

Black Pearl Buzzer

Flybox Code:2524

Hook Sizes: 12, 10

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

Its sparseness and and colourless, a plain Jane in the flybox, but the Black Pearl can be devastating on the day! Buzzers are high on the menu for stillwater trout Because of this, buzzers are particularly interesting when fishing stillwaters. Most of the fishing methods developed for these buzzer patterns are specifically aimed at lakes, ponds and reservoirs.

Black Weighted Nymph

Availablity:
Immediate Dispatch

Immediate Dispatch

Flybox Code:2553

Hook Sizes: 12

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

A weighted nymph gets down pretty fast and can be fished as deep as you need. Nymphs that resemble a number of different kinds of insect larvae and nymphs are probably the most practical and the Black Nymph does that .

Bug Eyed Pheasant Tail

Availablity:

Immediate Dispatch

Flybox Code:3051

Hook Sizes: 10

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

A good solid dependable pattern for getting down into those dark stillwater depths and mysterious river bed holes. I have used it with great success as a interesting 'buggy' alternative to czech nymphs on fast flowing clear streams.

Cased Caddis

Availablity:

Immediate Dispatch

Flybox Code:2554

Hook Sizes: 10, 12

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

Imitates a natural drifting cased caddis. Cased caddis don't often get dislodged and drift in the current but when it does happen trout will munch them with great relish.

CDC Black Shuttlecock Buzzer

Availablity:

Immediate Dispatch

Flybox Code:1628

Hook Sizes: 12, 14

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

Another Buzzer pattern, this one is definitely for fishing on the top, to rising fish. Tied specifically to float high, with a dubbed body (to which you can add just a little floatant under the thorax, but Do not add floatant to the CDC feathers) and the forward sloping CDC. It is these that really hold the buzzer right on top of the water and at a slight angle.

The Czech Nymph has proven very popular over the past couple of years, used originally on rivers but are excellent Caddis imitations so should work very well on stillwaters and reservoirs especially around the margins and in the shallows.

The Diawl Bach is a very effective 'modern' classic pattern, that has very quickly become a standard in stillwater flyboxes. The Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear is arguably the "most effective" fly of all time. It is without doubt a must have pattern in any flybox. If ever limited to one fly for the rest of their lives many anglers would choose the GRHE. It is not an imitation of any particular insect but a general representation pattern that takes fish. The scruffy, shaggy appearance of the Hare's Ear appeals to both fly fishers and fish.

Flybox Code:2390

Hook Sizes: 12, 10

Note: You can alter a hooksize or fly after adding it to your basket.

The H Flashpoint fly has been working wonders on stillwaters, specially when fished very slowly on a floating line and long leader. Because of its weight the fly cuts rapidly through the surface film and gets to fishing depth quickly. Be aware of takes on the drop. A slow figure-of-eight retrieve is good and if there is a lot of buzzer activity fairly fast stripping can work well. Can be fished with a sight indicator or large CDC; which helps when exploring different depths.

It makes no sense to go stalking big trout without the right flies for the job. The All Lead Green Buzzer is one a series of my flies are made for the angler who intends to go to the big fish waters, where you can see and target your Trout,so it is very important that you have a selection of stalking flies. The fish you are after will appear to be not too deep, but with refraction this is deceptive, hence the need for heavy flies,so that they get down to the level of the Trout. For big fish waters where the water is not clear, stalking flies are still very necessary but for these flies I add colour,so that they show up in the water. If the Trout can see your fly,it makes catching them that little bit easier, but never simple.

There resemblance, to the trout, is of such a wide variety of different foods from shrimps to beetles, from corixae to larva. When weighted makes a very good stalking bug
