About the Silver Doctor Salmon Atlantic Fly
The 'Silver Doctor' is a mixed wing full dressed salmon fly. Invented by James Wright, 1850. Wright was an award winning fly tier who also brought us many other famous patterns such as the Silver Grey and the Black Ranger.
A highly successful pattern in Great Britain and used with great effect in Norway and Canada from the Victorian period to today.
Expert Tip:
"A fishing diary, properly kept, is of a prime service to the self-education of a fisherman. Most good fishermen are, in the strictest sense, self-educated men. They have not been content merely to do as they were told to do but have pioneered, carefully watching theier own steps, even along the best todden paths".
Arthur Ransome 'Mainly About Fishing' 1959

Comments from other fly fishermen
Silver Doctor has been one of my favorite flies since I started fly fishing in mid 1950s in the area of my homevillage, Långå, in the mountin region Härjedalen, in the middle of Sweden. Most frequently used flies were “Hedeflugan” a series of 35 flies. The designers name was Oscar Fick and later on his daughter Alma. But out of the English flies were Silver Doctor my absolute favorite, still in use.
