The Mole Fly reputedly got its name from the River Mole, in the Surrey area of southern England. During the last 70 years it has become far more popular as a killing pattern in Europe, especially France.

It is without doubt a fly that sits well on the water and attracts its fair share of trout.

Dressings

  • Hook : 14-16.
  • Thread : Dark olive.
  • Body : Dark olive tying silk.
  • Rib : Fine gold wire.
  • Hackle : Palmered, red cock with black base.
  • Wings : Mottled hen pheasant.

Thw wings are tied well forward.
