About the Black Furnace Sea Trout Fly

Dr J C Mottram devised the black furnace as a daytime, dry fly for sea trout ; however has it has also proved its' worth on both rivers and still water for browns and rainbows.

Dressings

• Hook : 10 -12
• Thread : Black
• Body : Black ostrich herl
• Wings : Short brown fibres from he tail of an English partridge
• Thorax : Two or three turns of black ostrich herl ( between the wings and hooks' eye)
• Hackle, palmered : Long black and glossy
