About the Amber Nymph Small Trout Fly
Dr Howard Alexander Bell created the Amber Nymph for fishing on his favourite water, Blagdon & Chew reserviors. As a successful still water and reservoir fly, it is one of the earliest 'bugs' created.
It seems to represent a sedge pupa, trout will take it at various depths throughout the season. The Doctor favoured this smaller and more colourful pattern for the latter end of the season.
Expert Tip:
Dr H A Bell, as a Doctor, witnessed the appalling horrors of the 1st World War frontline dressing stations. On his return he began fly fishing as a restorative and pleasurable pastime. He prefered to fish alone.
