About the Morgan's Green Buzzer Trout Fly
After many trout were spooned and the contents closely examined, the buzzers were found to have a distinctly segmented body with alternate translucent and solid bands.
While a silver ribbed body undoubtedly caught trout, it was not perhaps the best imitation. At the vice, experiments of winding mother-of-pearl over a flat, green tinsel produced an electrifying effect. From one angle it appeared to be a greenish silver and from another it was pearlescent. To form the solid bands, five turns of black silk were wound and finished with a slipknot. Then add at least one coat of varnish, and the completed body is indeed impressive. The other material that reacts with mother-of-pearl in this way is fluorescent orange silk. To finish the head, white hen hackle fibres are used for breathers, bronze peacock herl for the head, and orange floss for the cheeks.
Expert Tip:
Would it work? The first time the green and black buzzer was fished at Hanningfield it was on a middle dropper on a leader of three flies fished from a floating line. Six fish fell to this pattern including a remarkable 16 1/4 lb grown on rainbow. Could anyone ask for a better start? Since
then, over the past three years, it has been found that the green and black Morgan’s Buzzer fishes best in the spring, while the orange and black really scores in the summer.
