In 1935 T J Hanna first created 'Goulden's Favourite Mayfly', reputedly with the support and suggestions of Sergeant Goulden , Royal Irish Constabulary, a renown dry fly fisherman.

Dressings
- Hook : 8 - 10 longshank
- Thread : Dark green
- Tail : Three fibres from cock pheasant tail
- Body : Green raffia
- Hackles : First hackle - large red cock. Second Hackle - hot orange
- Head hackle : Grey mallard, colour olive
Originally the body was translucent yellow-olive thin rubber sheet.
